President’s Message

Welcome to Continental Association of African Neurosurgical Society Website (CAANS)

Dear Colleagues

I address you with a profound sense of commitment and a personal investment in the future of our CAANS. I consider it an enormous privilege to work with colleagues who share a common passion and vision for advancing the field of neurosurgery in Africa and to follow in the footsteps of distinguished predecessors who have shaped our organization over the past decade.

Three pillars are essential for the development of Neurosurgery: training, education, and research. Education, being the cornerstone of progress, remains central to our mission. The investment in the professional development of our neurosurgeons and healthcare professionals is essential to keep our field at the cutting edge of science and technology.

Despite the recent significant improvement in the situation of neurosurgery in Sub-Saharan Africa, the development of neurosurgery to international standards still faces considerable challenges. In the same breath, we also see tremendous opportunities, which is something to celebrate.

During my term, I am committed to supporting the training and mentorship of the next generation of neurosurgeons, strengthening south-to-south cooperation to enhance continuous professional development. And to establish continental scholarship programs for young neurosurgeons.

Through ongoing communication and collaborative initiatives with regional, continental and international neurosurgical organizations such as WFNS, we aim to unlock opportunities for training, education and scholarships for young neurosurgeons with the goal of educating the ideal number of neurosurgeons to enhance the quality of care of neurosurgical patients and to improve access to neurosurgical care in many underserved areas in Africa.
